A Green Scene - Using Plants To Liven Up A Space

Today was a major weather teaser for those of us who are not cold weather fans. It was warm and spring-like which just gets me yearning for trips to the greenhouse. I do not have much luck with indoor plants however, so I thought I would share with you a few pictures of "fake green" plants that look terrific inside all year.

Hang in there- spring is on the way-Helloooo garage sales!!!

Gussied Up Guest Bedroom

Barb's guest bedroom will be the featured room for today. It was one of those redesigns where we went around her own home to shop for for things that would work in a spare room in order to give it some spunky charm. She is an avid shopper so we had plenty to pick from when we put this room together about a year ago. The foundation layers were already there with the nice paint color and cute curtains that she designed. She featured vintage glass doorknobs she retrieved from her husband's grandparents home when it was sold. She had the large dresser and the bed but did not have a headboard. We used the vintage chippy window for the headboard and it was a perfect size for the bed frame. We moved an interesting cupboard in for the bedside table and hung the shabby shelf with vintage glass doorknobs by the door to the bathroom. The chair is vintage that she had recovered in a white canvas type material. The little book cabinet with glass shelves is filled with some old college text books that we had her sweet hubby recover with white paper. I think anyone can have sweet dreams in here.......

Field Trip and Friendship Avon, Ohio

Our field trip on Presidents Day was in Avon, Ohio. It was Barb's turn to select the location. Her husband was raised in Avon and she has traveled the region with her job but has not had a chance to check out some of the local shops. We first went to eat a delicious light lunch at the Tree House Gallery & Tea Room. It is located in the historic Alten Casper House and features wonderful lunch and desserts. We were lucky and could get seated but it is recommended that you make reservations For more information call 440-934-1636. It also has a gallery featuring antiques, collectibles, folk art gifts and wines. The building is beautiful. After perusing the shop you can go around the corner to visit some of the stores located at Olde Avon Village. We then jumped in the car and went to Jameson Homestead Antiques. It features a 1906 farmhouse and barn with antiques, primitives, and architectural elements. They have several special events for 2012 such as Aunt Teak & Uncle Junk June 23rd and June 24th and also includes the city wide garage sale. Another event is the Autumn Antique Festival September 8th and 9th. More information on these events and store hours can be found at www.jamesonantiques.com. The entire historic region is called French Creek and details about all the local antique shops can be obtained at www.frenchcreekdistrict.com.I hope you enjoy the pictures of our latest adventure!

Mental Vacation- Images of Old World Charm

I have about zero creativity rolling around in this cough laden head of mine. I can't believe how fast February has gone. This time of year our family starts discussing vacations and gearing up to go south over spring break. This year will be different with Jenna and Steve moving and Scott going away on a school trip to Disney. Looks like hubby and I will be Ohio bound this year. I suppose it is a good thing since we will be able to get the house ready for a graduation party that we will be hosting in a few months. So as I dream of places I won't be going I thought I would share a few pictures that my friend took when she went on a trip this fall . She lives in Turkey and these were from the Kaz Mountain region. They were taken in the morning when the fog was lifting. It looks like a different world.

I would like to show you a couple of pictures I took when Bill and I went on a trip to Cape Cod few years ago. I absolutely love the way the hollyhocks are framed in the old shuddered windows.

I hope you enjoyed the few snapshots that have been my favorites for a long time.
Stay Warm and Healthy!

Vintage Tins II

Hello Blogger Friends. I have been under the weather the last few days. Horrible upper respiratory crud. Went to the Doctor and have a renewed appreciation for modern medicine. I wanted to share a few more pictures of vintage picnic tins and of the vintage tool box I have in my living room. I also wanted to share the most recent button bracelet. It is created from vintage buttons sewn on a leather band. Linda and I were trying to get them sewn on elastic but it just didn't work. She found these bands at Wal Mart and it really made a cute bracelet. I hope you all stay happy and healthy!
Thanks for stopping by!
