Rin Tin Tin

I hope you had a terrific weekend. We had some snow and cold here in North Central Ohio. I went to another auction and bought some more buttons. I bid on a few more things but crazy people are also there with no bidding boundaries. At least I stayed focused! Tonight I am just going to post some pictures  of some tins I have in our family room. I love old picnic tins and lunch boxes so you will get a glimpse of some I have displayed. I am really cheap so I have not spent much on these. I try to just pick them up at garage sales, thrift stores, church and organization fundraiser sales.I store games, books and other stuff in them. I have some in my attic I use at the holidays.One of the recent things I have picked up are metal tackle boxes or tool boxes. If they have fun vintage color I snatch them up. I need to re purpose them better for storage. It may be weird but I have one in my living room and one in my family room. Think unconventional! Later- Cathy

The Little White Wreath

If you are looking for something timeless, simple and economical look no further than the simple white twig wreath.It is very informal and works great with cottage style. All you do is spray paint white any twig wreath you find at any store/garage sale, thrift store. If the wreath is too skimpy buy two and wire them on top of each other to make it thicker. Add ribbon to hang it from the door and make a big floppy bow. You can also add birds or other embellishments but I prefer mine plain. Its simplicity welcome folks when they arrive at your home however I have hung mine in the bathroom, going into a bedroom or on glass door in a hallway. I also have one currently above my fireplace You can also put white lights in it for special occasions which we did for Jenna and Steve's wedding. Button Behaved

If you recall last weekend I went to an auction looking for vintage buttons and came home with a teak patio furniture set. This weekend I went to another auction and I am pleased to say I stayed focused and did score some buttons that were oldies but goodies. As a result of my good behavior I did not have to call in extra heavy duty equipment to haul anything home ( making some brownie points with the hubby.) I also bought a few vintage hats that were fun. Most importantly, I had some fun with a friend. We were supposed to head over east to get some food for her horses and stop at some fun thrift stores but the weather was bad so we just stayed local. Next weekend I have one more sale I would like to scout out for more buttons. It will be interesting to see if I can behave myself again.

I have been making button jewelry and it is surprising how many buttons it takes. ( I will post pictures of my finds as well as my creations.) Please check on my Pinterest board for a tutorial on how to sew button bracelets. The metal ones I am showing you are made with shank buttons, jump rings and a ready made chain bracelet from Joann Fabric. It can take up to 40-60 buttons to make the charm like version. It depends how big the buttons are and how full you like it. You pry open the jump ring slip it through the shank of the button then slip to around the link of the bracelet. Each link gets a button on each side. It is pretty easy to do but it does take some patience.

I have done two" crafternoons" making button jewelry. One was at Thanksgiving with my family ( my sister-in-law declared it the best craft ever!). The second time was with my staff( 16 people) for our Christmas party. They made different kinds of jewelry such as rings, brooches, bracelets, hair clips etc. We used vintage earrings at that party as well.

I am thinking about teaching a class at a local shop in town. I'll let you know more about that in the future. Thanks for stopping by today!

How to Decorate A Nook and Cranny Hallway

Today I wanted to show you a few pictures of my hallway outside the bedroom area. I'm not sure if it fits into the nook or cranny category but let's just say it is a rather small space. I will show you the before and after pictures to illustrate that small spaces can take some bulk items to give it some pizazz.Everything was purchased at garage sales or thrift shops.My dad painted the little table and chairs decorator white(it had been ugly brown wood). Most of the transformation comes from the scale of the wall art. My biggest mistake I make is not keeping things in scale and Linda always comes to rescue on that, however I am trainable and have done so much better with it!
